The original source mentioned purchasing these boards on Amazon, but at the time I was really trying not to purchase anything else for the home and use only materials on hand. So, since we had a surplus of cardboard boxes, I cut the cardboard into 8 x 10 pieces and wrapped them with old wrapping paper. I wrapped them just like a present, folding the corners in and all.

hey that looks really nice! we need to do that! :)
ReplyDeleteI am in the process of doing that now - using diaper boxes. Love how your's looks. I did not wrap it in paper, but that is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to doing this because right now mine is in piles and plastic boxes. :( I know, fail!! But hopefully in the near future I will get in my sewing/craft area (that's once all the stored furniture is moved.)!!
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing!! I work at a grocery store, and I used the yogurt cardboard squares. I loved them because I didn't have to cut anything...they were the perfect size. It is so nice to have all my fabric organized in a nice orderly fashion. :) Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteOh my, I SO LOVE THIS!
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking about how to organize my fabric now for such a long time. I tried putting it in drawers, in boxes, on shelves. It NEVER worked. It was a disaster and I got so frustrated. I never found what I needed or wanted. I kept forgetting about some fabrics all together. They were just not easily accesible and not visible at all. So when I tried to find something that coordinated with something I had ... I had to pull everything apart. It was really really aweful!
I have read about the mini-bolts thing before but kinda thought that it must be quite some effort to organize it that way. But now I am ready to start! There really seems to be no other easy way that works.
I just have one question. How do you organize those fabric pieces that are not large enough for the bolts? I do have quite a few and I really love them and like to use them. But just tossing them in a big container does not seem to be the best option. Any ideas?
what about folding each piece of fabric length-wise then wrapping them on the cardboard so you would end up with various fabric strips on the same cardboard. you could even arrange them by colour.
DeleteWhat a fantastic idea! My fabric bin is in dire need of some organization.
ReplyDeletelove it ! i will definitely give it a try :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you. I have been searching for a long time for a great way to store my fabrics. I think this is the perfect solution. I'm even going to order the boards from Amazon. Not a bad price for 100 boards, plus I get free shipping. I can't wait to do this!
