My Floors Need Your Help!
We have a large amount of hardwood laminate flooring in our home. I love the single plank floors, love the way it looks like hardwood, love the durability of it. But, I cannot find something to clean it well. I am desperate for help!
I usually mop it with my Shark Steam Mop. I love this mop for ceramic tile, but not so much for the wood floors. It seems to streak and leave a residue. This morning I tried this trick with teabags in a spray bottle. That didn't work at all. It left spots all over the floor. Then, I mixed equal parts vinegar and water, and added a splash of lemon juice. Now my floors are streaky and spotty.

Hi! I hope this helps your issue. First, make a solution of white vinegar/water with a splash of alcohol and clean your floors with that. They will look dull and streaky afterward. Then...try some Orange Glow Floor Refinisher. Get some textured paper towels like Viva...soak 5 or 6 with the Orange Glo...and get down on your knees (sorry!) and polish a section in a circular motion...then let dry and watch it shine! Hope that helps!

Thanks for your help, Laura! I'm combining all the ideas and hope to do an update with all my attempts and trial and errors next week. Appreciate your help!
DeleteIn a previous century, I grew up in a house with hardwood floors. We used Murphy's Oil Soap to clean the floors, and once or twice a year we waxed with Johnson's paste wax. Put it on, let it dry, rub it shiny. We had a buffer to do the shiny part. Made it easy for my mom to convince us to do the job. Our floors always looked good. I never saw them look like yours. Hope this helps (not the insult, just the info).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips! I'm compiling them all and hope to do a big update next week. Appreciate your help!
DeleteSorry I don't have any tips for you, but I am looking forward to your results. We have bamboo floors that are in need of some TLC!

Aside from the steps mentioned above, here's my suggestion: add a quarter cup of mild or pH-neutral soap, like dishwashing soap into a bucket of water. Such cleaner will do a very effective job. It is really important to take proper care of hardwood floors as to maintain its stunning look. Right Amy? :)

I also have bamboo hard wood and have the same problems. I've been using Swifter wet pads. Leaves no streaking but I a worried the wet pads will warp my floors. I'd be happy to get any advice. sprez527@aol.com Thanks, Suzanne
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI had this issue with some laminate floors in the Chiropractic office I clean. THE ONLY thing that worked was Norwex's Microfiber mop. With fibers 1/200th of a human hair they actually made something able to pick up residues with only water! They were designed for hospital systems originally. Anyhow. Now that's all I use in my biz and even though it did take several cleanings to finally get all previous residues off the floor it now looks new, there is never a streak when I clean it, and it has saved me a bunches of money with never buying cleaners again. anyhoo- google it :)
