So today, I'm here to tell you how I cleaned my floors. This may or may not work for you. I can't promise that it will fix your floor cleaning problem, but I can share how I clean my floors and hope you can glean some wisdom from this information.
A little background: I have laminate floors that look like hardwood. They are single plank, with grooves between each plank. They have a very high shine finish. They are also approximately 18 months old.
I shared here how frustrated I was with the constant footprints, dirt, smudges and general dullness of the floors, and I begged for help. You guys pitched in your tips and I am so grateful!
Ready to hear what worked for me?
First I vacuumed the floors really well. I have a Dyson Vacuum that I LOVE! It can clean anything, really!
Then, I cleaned the entire floors with my Shark Steam Mop. I love how this mop uses water only, not harsh chemicals or fumes, to clean.
Next, I slipped on a pair of these Microfiber Cleaning Slippers and grabbed my Method Floor Cleaner. This is the step that made all the difference, I'm confident! Sure, the floors were clean after the vacuum and the shark mop, but they didn't shine and sparkle.
From everything I read, I concluded that the best option was to clean the floors with the vacuum/steam mop method and then use a cloth to dry the floors. Most websites suggested drying with a cloth on my hands and knees! Now, I love a clean home, but I am not Cinderella and I do not have the time or energy to get on my hands and knees to dry the floors. Forgive me if that's a little rude, but I do not have any desire to spend my days on the floor cleaning!
Enter my new best friend- Microfiber Slippers. These things are amazing! After my floors were clean and free of dirt and dust, I simply squirted the Method Floor Cleaner and "danced" all over my floors with my new shoes! I can't tell you how easy (and fun!) this was! I couldn't believe I was getting in exercise and cleaning at the same time! My husband came inside and laughed, of course, but even 24 hours later, he still thinks our floors look amazing.
Anyone else tried these slippers? How do you use them to clean your home?
I saw your post last week and tried to comment but could not...anyway I'm so glad you got your floors cleaned...they look great. I have a Haan Steam mop and love it too. I have Tile and it works great.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!

The floors look GREAT! I've never seen these cleaning slippers. Most of our home is carpeted so not practical for here but a neat idea.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see your posts, I always have the same response: you are the cutest mama alive. I wish I would discipline more time to be more thrifty/crafty. My goals have been whole foods and meal planning for the last... well, three years. Love the floor idea. We are in a rental with U-G-L-Y floors. No hope. They need to be replaced. But I'll keep your ideas in mind!
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I think I've made fun of those slippers before, but I just might need to buy a pair. I have two large inside/outside dogs and my floors are ALWAYS gross!
ReplyDeleteEven though you failed at cleaning the floor at first, it’s good that you tried again. And this time, you really made a difference! You’re right that it may or may not work on all kinds of floors because every floor does have different properties. In some cases, it may harm your floor rather than clean it.
ReplyDeleteI have tried the steaming method for over a year on my laminate floors. Now they are bubbling in places. When I went back to the store where I got my laminate they told me steam cleaning laminate is not good. Just be careful I hope this doesn't happen to you.
ReplyDeleteYour floors look great. I would love to "dance" my floors as shiny as yours. However, mine are real hardwood...(but does that really make a difference, if we want shine? Anyway, with a recent hip replacement, I think I better NOT be dancing with those slippers NOR any slippers for awhile lol. It's kind of dangerous to be doing that really. I think I will keep my exercise in other areas. More power to you though! By the way, my hardwood floors look great and I have both a rabbit (in and out of a cage and a dog) :0)
ReplyDeleteWere did you buy the microfiber slippers?
ReplyDeleteDo you know if it's safe to use the vinegar/water on laminate wood floors?
